WHY WE EXIST
Artificial Intelligence is transforming economics, business, investment, employment, national power, warfare and society at extraordinary speed.
Understanding that transformation requires more than following the news. It requires preserving the record, connecting developments over time, examining the evidence and asking what those developments mean for the future.
The Institute for Strategic Intelligence exists to do that.
OUR MISSION
Our mission is to build and maintain a credible historical record of the Artificial Intelligence transformation—and use rigorous analysis to understand what that transformation means for economics, business, investment, employment, national power, warfare and society.
OUR PURPOSE
We believe intelligence—human and artificial—should ultimately be used to expand knowledge, opportunity and prosperity.
Our purpose is not simply to document technological change, but to contribute to understanding it—and to a future in which intelligence, both human and artificial, expands human possibility and shared prosperity.
HOW WE WORK
Evidence before narrative. We begin with facts, data and primary sources wherever possible.
History matters. Today's developments make more sense when placed in the record of what came before.
Implications matter. We are interested not simply in what happened, but what it could mean.
Uncertainty should be acknowledged. Artificial Intelligence is developing too rapidly for false certainty. Forecasts should be identified as forecasts and revisited as evidence changes.
Ideas should survive challenge. Important conclusions deserve serious counterarguments. We actively test our own assumptions and revise them when the evidence requires it.
WHO WE ARE
The Institute for Strategic Intelligence was founded by Jerry Sutter as an independent research and publishing project devoted to understanding the Artificial Intelligence transformation and its broader consequences.
Mr. Sutter serves as the Institute's founder and editor. He identifies the questions the Institute investigates, develops and tests its central theses, determines its research priorities and editorial direction, and is ultimately responsible for what the Institute publishes.
The Institute's work is developed through an ongoing human–AI collaboration with ChatGPT, which serves as a research, analytical and editorial collaborator. That collaboration expands the Institute's ability to gather evidence, challenge assumptions, explore competing explanations and develop ideas across disciplines.
The roles are complementary. Human judgment determines what questions are worth asking, what conclusions deserve scrutiny and what the Institute ultimately stands behind. Artificial Intelligence dramatically expands the capacity to investigate those questions.
We disclose that collaboration because transparency matters—and because the use of Artificial Intelligence to understand the Artificial Intelligence transformation is itself part of the story we are documenting.
