Companies

Company-by-company tracking of AI adoption, layoffs, hiring, non-backfills, job creation, productivity and changes in demand for human labor.

What are employers actually doing?

The Companies Tracker provides a company-by-company record of how employers are implementing artificial intelligence and how those changes are affecting human employment.

We track AI adoption alongside layoffs, hiring, non-backfills, attrition, job creation, workforce restructuring, productivity claims and changes in the amount or type of human labor companies say they require.

The objective is to connect AI implementation to measurable changes in the workforce.

A single company may simultaneously eliminate some positions, stop replacing others and create entirely new jobs. Looking at those changes together can reveal how AI is reshaping the composition of work rather than simply increasing or decreasing total headcount.

Our standard is evidence. Company records distinguish explicit AI attribution from broader associations and rely wherever possible on company disclosures, regulatory filings, executive statements, employment data and other primary sources.

Individual events are also recorded in AI Job Displacement, Hiring & Non-Backfills, and AI Job Creation according to the employment mechanism involved.

COMPANY AI EMPLOYMENT PROFILES

Each company has one continuing employment record. When a company first produces credible evidence of an AI-related employment change, we create a profile. From that point forward, we update the same profile as new evidence emerges — including layoffs, hiring, non-backfills, job creation, AI adoption, productivity and other measurable workforce changes.

The objective is not simply to record whether AI affected jobs. It is to determine what happens to a company's workforce over time as AI becomes more capable and more widely deployed.

CLOUDFLARE

CONFIRMED AI DISPLACEMENT

Cloudflare explicitly redesigned its operating model around AI agents while reducing its workforce by approximately 20%.

AI implementation
Transition toward what Cloudflare described as an “agentic AI-first operating model.”
Employment effect
Approximately 20% workforce reduction, representing more than 1,100 positions.
Mechanism
Workforce restructuring / layoffs
Evidence
Cloudflare's May 2026 restructuring plan explicitly stated that it was designed to accelerate the company's evolution toward an agentic AI-first operating model. Subsequent regulatory filings confirmed that approximately 20% of the workforce was reduced.
Tracker classification
AI Job Displacement
What to watch
Revenue and output per employee, subsequent hiring, operating margins and whether the smaller AI-enabled workforce can sustain or increase company output.

UBER

CONFIRMED HIRING EFFECT

Uber says AI-driven productivity gains have allowed the company to moderate the pace at which it adds employees.

AI implementation
AI coding tools and autonomous coding agents deployed broadly across engineering.
AI adoption
Uber reported that approximately 95% of engineers were using AI coding tools monthly in Q1 2026 and that more than 10% of code was being written autonomously by AI coding agents.
Employment effect
Moderation in the pace of hiring relative to previous company plans.
Mechanism
AI productivity / reduced incremental hiring
Evidence
Management explicitly said productivity improvements from AI allowed Uber to moderate the pace of hiring. By Q2, the company reported near-universal engineering adoption of AI tools and cited a measure showing roughly doubled code output per engineer.
Tracker classification
Hiring & Non-Backfills
What to watch
Engineering headcount, total hiring, code output per engineer, revenue per employee and whether AI-driven hiring moderation expands into other functions.

SALESFORCE

CONFIRMED NON-BACKFILL

Salesforce said AI reduced support demand enough that it no longer needed to actively backfill support-engineer roles.

AI implementation
Agentforce and AI-enabled customer-support systems.
Employment effect
Reduced replacement hiring for support-engineer positions.
Mechanism
Non-backfilling following AI-driven reduction in support workload
Evidence
Salesforce said support-case volume declined after deployment of its AI support capabilities and that the company no longer needed to actively backfill support-engineer roles.
Tracker classification
Hiring & Non-Backfills
What to watch
Support headcount, internal redeployment, new AI-related occupations and whether similar non-backfill policies appear elsewhere in the company.

BANK OF AMERICA

STRONG EVIDENCE

Bank of America is using attrition and selective replacement hiring to reduce headcount while simultaneously expanding its use of technology and AI.

AI implementation
Broad employee access to AI tools alongside continued technology-driven elimination and automation of work.
Employment effect
Headcount reduction through attrition and controlled replacement hiring.
Mechanism
Attrition / selective hiring / technology-enabled productivity
Evidence
CEO Brian Moynihan said Bank of America was reducing headcount through attrition and careful hiring, noting that approximately 1,300 hires per month would be required merely to keep employment neutral. In the same discussion, management described eliminating work through technology and additional opportunities created by AI.
Tracker classification
Hiring & Non-Backfills
Evidence limitation
Bank of America did not attribute every unfilled position specifically to AI. The evidence connects the workforce strategy to a broader technology and AI-productivity program.
What to watch
Monthly hiring, total headcount, attrition, AI deployment and whether management more explicitly quantifies AI's contribution to reduced labor requirements.

COGNIZANT

CONFIRMED AI JOB CREATION

Cognizant is expanding early-career hiring as it builds what the company describes as an AI-era workforce.

AI implementation
Expansion of enterprise-AI capabilities and development of AI-focused technical talent.
Employment effect
1,500 U.S. college-graduate hires planned by the end of 2026.
Mechanism
AI-related workforce expansion / early-career hiring
Evidence
Cognizant said its 2026 graduate hiring spans its technology-services business, engineering subsidiary and a new Frontier Engineers program intended to place technical graduates in roles at the forefront of enterprise AI.
Tracker classification
AI Job Creation
What to watch
Actual hires completed, composition of AI-related roles, subsequent graduate hiring and whether AI changes the ratio of entry-level to experienced workers.
