AI Job Creation

Evidence-based tracking of jobs, occupations and other increases in demand for human labor attributable to artificial intelligence.

Where is AI creating employment?

The AI Job Creation Tracker documents jobs, occupations and other measurable increases in demand for human labor attributable to artificial intelligence.

AI can destroy some forms of work while creating or expanding others. New employment may arise directly from developing and operating AI systems, or indirectly through industries and activities whose growth is being driven by AI investment and adoption.

A credible accounting of AI's effect on employment must measure jobs created as well as jobs displaced.

Our standard is evidence. We look for company disclosures, employment data, hiring announcements and other evidence establishing that AI contributed to the creation or expansion of the employment being recorded.

General hiring by a company that happens to use AI is not sufficient. Wherever possible, the employment increase must be connected specifically to AI investment, adoption, infrastructure or AI-enabled economic activity.

DOCUMENTED AI JOB CREATION

Records document employment created or expanded with credible evidence connecting the increase in human labor demand to artificial intelligence.

DIRECT & AI-SPECIALIZED EMPLOYMENT

COGNIZANT

JULY 2026

Cognizant announced plans to hire 1,500 U.S. college graduates in 2026 as it builds an AI-era workforce.

Employment created
1,500 U.S. college-graduate hires planned by the end of 2026.
Employment type
Permanent / early-career technology and engineering employment
Mechanism
AI-era workforce expansion and development of AI-focused technical talent
Evidence
Cognizant said the hires span its technology-services business, engineering subsidiary and a new Frontier Engineers program designed to place technical graduates in roles at the forefront of enterprise AI.
Evidence strength
CONFIRMED
Why it matters
The announcement provides direct evidence that the AI transition is also creating demand for early-career human talent. This is particularly important because other evidence in the Employment Tracker shows weakening early-career hiring in some highly AI-exposed occupations.

AI INFRASTRUCTURE EMPLOYMENT

MICROSOFT — PECOS, TEXAS

JUNE 2026

Microsoft's new Pecos data-center campus is expected to support more than 6,000 construction jobs at peak and hundreds of permanent operating jobs.

Employment created
More than 6,000 construction jobs at peak and hundreds of permanent jobs once the campus is operational.
Employment type
Mixed — temporary construction and permanent data-center operations
Mechanism
Construction and operation of large-scale computing infrastructure supporting growing AI and cloud demand
Evidence
Microsoft announced a 2-gigawatt data-center campus in Pecos, Texas, and said the project is being developed to meet growing demand for AI and cloud services. The company expects construction employment to exceed 6,000 workers at peak and the completed campus to support hundreds of permanent jobs.
Evidence strength
CONFIRMED
Why it matters
AI employment creation extends beyond software and model development. Building the physical infrastructure required for AI creates substantial demand for construction labor and a smaller but continuing base of permanent operational employment. Temporary and permanent jobs are tracked separately because they are not economically equivalent.

AI SUPPLY-CHAIN EMPLOYMENT

CORNING — NORTH CAROLINA

JUNE 2026

Corning announced that expanded fiber-optic manufacturing capacity supporting Amazon's data-center infrastructure will create approximately 1,000 new advanced-manufacturing jobs.

Employment created
Approximately 1,000 new advanced-manufacturing jobs, plus hundreds of construction jobs associated with the expansion.
Employment type
Mixed — permanent advanced manufacturing and temporary construction
Mechanism
Expansion of fiber-optic manufacturing capacity to supply data-center infrastructure supporting AI and cloud computing
Evidence
Corning and Amazon announced a multibillion-dollar agreement under which Corning will expand optical-fiber and cable manufacturing in North Carolina to support Amazon's expanding data-center network. Corning said the expansion will create approximately 1,000 new advanced-manufacturing jobs and hundreds of construction jobs.
Evidence strength
CONFIRMED
Why it matters
AI-driven infrastructure investment can create employment well beyond data centers themselves. Demand propagates upstream into industries supplying the physical components required to build large-scale computing infrastructure, creating manufacturing and construction employment in the AI supply chain.
